CURE-SORT is a special issue chapter of National CURE (Citizens United for Rehabilitation of Errants) which is a grassroots organization that was founded in Texas in 1972. It became a national organization in 1985.
National CURE's philosophy is that we believe prisons should be used only for those who absolutely must be incarcerated and that those who are incarcerated should have all of the resources they need to turn their lives around. We also believe that the principles espoused by national and international human rights human rights organizations provide a sound basis for ensuring that criminal justice systems meet these goals.
National CURE has affiliated state chapters which focus on issues related to their specific state and information on resources to provide assistance within their state. National CURE has several issue specific chapters like CURE-SORT which focus on topics that impact on all states. In addition, National CURE's philosophy has now expanded into an International CURE organization with chapters formed and forming across the globe.
