Books and Pamphlets
SELF-HELP/RECOVERY
CURE-SORT advocates and truly believes in the recovery process for persons who have sexually offended. We believe it is vital that a self-help process is begun as early as possible to maximize recovery and focus emotional energy in a healthy way.
Those in the support system of the recovering offender can gain understanding, relief and energy to support, when they learn more about the origins of the behavior and the dynamics of the recovery process.
The books and pamphlets listed below are considered valuable by CURE-SORT members. Each deals with some aspect of the topic of illegal and inappropriate sexual behavior. Since our focus is on assessment and treatment, most of these titles deal address these topics.
The order in which the titles appear is the recommended order for reading, however we encourage you to decide what is important to you. Please read with an open mind, knowing that all will not apply to you, but that messages may be found in all the readings. We do not suggest that this is an exclusive nor all inclusive list, but we do know it has been helpful to many. Please let us know what you find helpful.
We list these books and pamphlets as suggestions and do not have the means to send them to you. Also bear in mind that there are many other titles available from many sources. Additionally, there are many very resourceful websites that offer comprehensive information on all aspects of these topics, including advocacy for reform. For a list of websites, visit our Links page (here).
There are no central set of rules that can be followed for sending to books to a loved one who is incarcerated. We recommend that you review the information at Books 2 Prisons, which provides information regarding the rules for sending books to facilities in each state in the U.S. It is a very useful website.
Clicking on book titles will take you to a suggested supplier, (opens in a new window). Where possible, we have provided a reference for the author(s).
In addition, we recommend use of A Book You Want to purchase a book. It is an independent operation providing this service and is not affiliated with CURE-SORT. A Book You Want is a simple and inexpensive way for inmates and others with no access to the Internet to access the huge markets available to those in the “free world.” They will locate the book you wish and advise you of the cost and shipping options. To use this service, send your request to A Book You Want and they will direct you on the process to receive your request. Include a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Contact A Book You Want at P.O. Box 16141, Rumford, RI 02916. Phone: 508-982-0982. Email: [email protected]
Recommendations for additional titles are welcome and can be submitted by using our Contact Us page here. We are particularly interested in more recent titles.
